Lower body workouts: why squats, lunges, and deadlifts matter

I learned the hard way after pulling a hamstring mid-season. I was only doing upper body work and cardio, barely touched squats or lunges because I thought running was enough. Once I added proper lower body training, especially deadlifts, my sprinting speed picked up and I could field way longer without cramping. Crazy how ignoring legs almost cost me the whole season.

Same here, I underestimated how much power actually comes from legs. Squats and lunges gave me balance, while deadlifts built the kind of strength that translates directly into hitting and running. I mix bodyweight versions with barbell lifts, depending on how sore I am. For planning, I keep coming back to https://assamtribune.com/article/how-to-train-like-a-pro-cricketer-fitness-diet-and-drills-1587645 because it lays out how these exercises tie into stamina and mobility, not just raw muscle.

Sometimes I wonder if the real challenge isn’t physical at all but just keeping the habit alive. You miss a couple of days, and suddenly the routine feels like it’s slipping away, even though the body doesn’t forget that quickly. The mental side of sticking with it can be harder than the lifts themselves.
